For charity. For the Mitchemp Trust. I was one of a team of 5 volunteers, aiming to raise £30,000 for the Mitchemp Trust to benefit vulnerable children in the UK. Thanks to the wonderful support of my colleagues at HSBC, I raised £2,000. When the Group adds its £1 for £1 sponsorship that will take my total to £2,150 or £2,400 if I have raised more than anyone else in the month.
The Mitchemp Trust
The Mitchemp Trust is a youth development charity, established in 1992, that works with vulnerable children between the ages of 11 and 14 years. It aims to improve the self esteem and confidence of these young people, showing them what they can achieve if they believe in themselves, better enabling them to play a constructive part in society. The trust does this by providing outdoor adventure camps that are designed to help the youngsters see what they are capable of, through challenging their beliefs and building their own self esteem. In so doing, they are prepared for work later with other organisations such as the Prince's Trust. The aim is to catch the youngsters before they drop out of education, turn to drugs and alcohol and/or become involved in crime, by giving them opportunities to do things that otherwise would be beyond their wildest dreams, and most certainly beyond their reach, that they can build on over time.
Here is what the money we are raising would provide:
- £16,000 could run a summer camp for 40 children
- £400 could provide this opportunity for one child
- £2,500 could provide qualified instructors and staff for one camp
- £900 could provide transport for one camp
- £200 could train one volunteer staff member
